Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
Hi folks:
I really dig the front end on the fatboys. I want to know, is it easy to "bolt on" the front end on my 64 pan or is there more involved.
Thanks.
Shawn

im assuming your using the trees from the fat boy also,if so,it is a direct bolt on,at least up to the 1999 model.good luck

Mark..
Showing my ignorance here...
So, just about any modern Harley front end will fit on a 58 frame, provided the upper and lower trees, and bearings/bearing cups are used??
It that correct?
IF .. yes.
My parts search has just been redirected.

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
my knowledge on front ends stops at 1999,i put an fxst front end on my pan and it was the version used until 99.im not sure if the later model front ends use the 1 inch stem or not.if they do i dont see why something later wouldnt fit.

A concern to check is the rake. In later models the rake was different. I have a springer from tone of the softail models on a rigid frame for our 46 U L The rake and trail is different, taller which makes kickstand challenges. One change can lead to issues somewhere else. The main advantage is a disc brakes and more efficient dampening.
How do I add a photo from my files to a response? can any one tell me please.

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
I "think" my front-end is a 2000. Also, I've read or been told that the new(er) front-ends are about 2" longer than the old ones. I bought a Heritage front-end off fleabay. I put it on one time just to see how the bike was going to sit and I thought it was OK (without engine, trans, tanks, etc). I have a picture in my photos. I'm painting the frame today so I just might knock the front-end back on tomorrow.

I suggest you can see from the photo the height difference as yours will probably be. There are sites to check your rake and trail when you mock up. Mine handles like a dream, front wheel is a 21 inch. As before the biggest challenge hassle was and is the kickstand.

mike,i know for sure the fxst front end i have is 2 inches longer than a hydra-glide front end,but since my bike has a slight rake it sits perfect.

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
I do love to occasionally resurrect old threads... SO....
Did anyone ever definitively see an example of a rigid pan (oh I dunno, say a 53?) that used an entire front end from a fatboy or heritage to go disc? And did the fork tin holes line up for the original cover?
I am seriously considering it as I really enjoy my old gal as a daily driver and to do that comfortably i'd feel better with a quality disc setup rather than worry about period correct for now. I don't have a points bike other than the points in my timer!
I really wish I could find a hidden setup inside the hub, although this winter I am going to do everything I can to go through the brakes, Arc the shoes, etc... and see if i can make it more substantial as it currently is

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
My good friend Wasco has a '51 pan. Long story, but -- he recently bought a complete Fatboy front end (I think it's a '99) to use on the stock frame.
The seller wanted $500, but worked a deal down to $350 + shop time. My point there is, they can usually be had at a reasonable price.
He hasn't installed it yet, but he knows all about what fits what. I can post here when he does the fitment, but Wasco doesn't get much time to work on his own stuff, all his time goes to customer's work.
As for the original tins, the Fatboy tins look close enough. Certainly look closer to vintage than the sliders and front wheel & hub.
I guess this isn't much help, sorry....

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
Nah thats all good info. After reading a bit more, I think just getting the whole front end but using my trees is the way to go. I have a new repop fork tin with the straight ribs (want original but damned hard to find in decent shape and not a gazillion bucks). i'll hopefully get the front working better this winter anyway
Who know what i'll do, i like to dream big on ideas and then I fall back to the idea of keeping it closer to stock so i'll just ride along until the right deal falls in my lap!

Re: Fatboy front end on a 1964 pan?
I'm running a 2000 and up Fat Boy made up of parts donated or found on Flea-bay.
Had to cut the rod where the tree wouldn't clear on my 'custom wishbone' frame.
And I'm running 3 degree raked cups.
