1934 Harley RL Value???
I realize this is tough, and I don't have any pictures yet....but any idea what a barn find 34 RL would be worth. Engine is free, rolls, fenders and tanks are good. Have not found out if it is original paint yet, but I am guessing no. Very complete from the description....has oiler cover, lights, seat, bags, speedo, toolbox. It was apparently bought new by the father and has since been inherited by the daughter who has had it for a while and wants to sell it. I don't see RL bikes selling or sold on Ebay so don't have a clue what one is worth. Once I get some pictures I realize that will help a ton, but this is all I have to go on for now. Thanks

Terry,
If it is as complete and original as your description it is probably worth between 5 and 10K right out of the barn (maybe closer to the 10 side).
That '34 is a unique bike, a lot of the '45 cube stuff is very similar to the WL which replaced it after '36, the neat thing is that its still a total loss oiler but the '34 has the better oil pump on it.
keep us posted!

I was thinking about $4-$5000 so you are a little higher than I was thinking but you make some good points, again I don't know much about them. Of course once I get to see it in person it will probably end up being an 82 Honda Shadow......I have been down this path before. Complete and original is a completely different definition to a lot of people. When I get more info I will post it and see where it goes.

Re: 1934 Harley RL Value???
OK, I got some more info but no pictures yet. It is a 1934 RL bought new and in the same family since bought in Ohio. It is original paint by the sounds of it but has surface rust and can hardly make out the tank emblems. I was asking questions as my buddy was looking at it. Corbin speedo, ammeter, bars and switches are all good, rear fender is good, front has a dent, tanks undented and not rusted, seat is OK, kicks over fine and seems free, front crash bar. Started all the time by the father until he died in 2005. so, now I gotta figure out what it is worth.

Terry,
My original estimate is in the ball park, even more so since your update. If you don't buy the thing for somewhere in the 5 to 10K range you are missing a chance that you won't get again, make an offer, see what happens.

Re: 1934 Harley RL Value???
Talked to him later last night after he left the place. The numbers he gave me were 34RL024XX. He was having trouble with the 0, he said I think it is an 0, but not sure......he is mid 70's and can't see real great anymore. So, after thinking about it for a minute, I figure that the 0 probably is a D since I don't think it should be 34RL024XX.....would be right if it was 34RLD24XX...IF my thinking is wrong here, let me know. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1934 Harley RL Value???
the "D" would be far more correct than a "0" in that position of the VIN

Re: 1934 Harley RL Value???
If he's havin trouble readin the VIN off the engine, have him git it off the title. It will probably be a bit easier to read with a magnifying glass that way....bosheff
Re: 1934 Harley RL Value???
Better yet, go see it yourself and do it quick before it gets sold, or the owner starts raising the price after folks start showing interest. You need to see the title and the bike first hand
