It does bring up more questions than answers, but makes some sense to the number thing on a whole.

Back in 1971 the California Highway Patrol printed up a book all about how serial numbers on motorcycles should look. They went into all the current information on Odd & Even numbering, Transmission numbers, Lower tree numbers, Frame numbers, ETC. This book covered most every brand of motorcycles on the market.
One day a copy of this book fell into the hands of one of the Satan's Slaves. (Honestly I don't know how he got it. It probably fell outta that cruiser when the Chippy went in for coffee.:D ) He added an illustration to the cover, went through the book a white outed any reference to California and wrote in state and copied the book to sell.
I have a pdf file of that 48 page book on my website if you would like to read or copy it. Harley information starts on page 10. Be sure you read the glossary of biker terminology on the last two pages.:D

Also go to http://www.vintageamericanmotorcycles.com and look at the section on "Case Numbers"

Seems i have been offered the FLH12xxx. Two questions on that:

1) is there any way to find out what color the FLH12xxx was delivered?
2) is it possible, allthough being stamped 62FLH that the 12xxx - being last of 1962 - has been delivered with the 1963 Model-Year Tank emblem?

and, since i am not familiar with the US-Registration-Procedure:

3) is it possible to get previous owner list like it is e.g. with CarFax?

1) is there any way to find out what color the FLH12108 was delivered?
2) is it possible, allthough being stamped 62FLH that the 12108 - being last of 1962 - has been delivered with the 1963 Model-Year Tank emblem?

1) basically no unless you have the original order from the dealer who sold it. No records of color exist at H-D
2)No, H-D made a complete break of on year trim to the next when a style changed.
3) No, each stte had its own systems of registration and there was no national data base of any sort. Information wasn't shared.

Thanks.

So either the 62FLH# is Bogus or the Tank Emblem was fitted later on
