Chicago grips

Post by Continentalsavoy »

Hi everybody!

Anyone got some tips on fitting hard plastic CMS grips on spiral sleeves?

I have a set of 49-53 Buckhorn handlebars with CMS hard plastic grips on my Pan.
On the throttle side I had to make my own sleeve out of copper tube for the spiral, (couldn't get the sleeve of the handlebar). Works real fine!
Last week I got my hands on a OEM spiral sleeve for the left side, so now I have a complete setup.

The problem is I cannot fit the grip on the sleeve!

Hot air gun?
Chemicals?
Gasoline?

Thanks, Jonas

The best thing to do on the CMS grips is hone the ID until they fit. Stretching with heat or boiling water will cause them to split when they cool. Same with the hard plastic H-D grips.
