Cotten-
Yes 45's thru 1973 still do the same thing!! I'm Glad..

Which, I prefer to what HD started in 65 Big Twins + newer thru 'chubbles'. Which was have the motor oil go in the primary & lube up everything & then, be sucked back into the oil tank, continiously revolving.
Any Wrenches here know clutches make messy, contaminated oil. That is 'Re-introduced to the motor'.
Kinda like taking a bath in the same water a pig just bathed in.
You get the idea.. Never liked "That HD Improvement"
Never will... :
I have my own way to deal w/that one. & It's no secret.
I'm not trying to push books, just pass info & p/up info as well...

Indians from sometime about '33 on had an enclosed aluminum chaincase with an adjustor shoe, and shared a wet sump with the transmission... Until the last Chiefs, when the tranny and primary were sealed off separately.

Sound familiar?

There was still a mess of oil from the rear chain, so the bottom line is: If you want a vintage machine but can't stand the sight of oil, don't look at it!
