Help identify bike

#1

Post by Thig »

This is a picture of my dad, on the right, and his Harley. He died about 2 years ago and I found this photo. I am trying to identify the year and model of this bike. I know it isn't much to go on but would appreciate any help.

Thanks. Photo was probably taken around 1947.

It's not a Harley, but an Indian! Looks like a military model, not sure but I think it is a 45" and not a big twin. 8)

Chris,
There is pretty good documentation that all the springer equipped '49s were originally shipped as sidecar bikes. And most if not all have the letter P stamped on them behind the VIN number. Also they were in '49 frames, not '48.
