As long as I'm on this board I want to vent a bit. I think that this most recent resurrection of Indian has a smarter strategy then the previous attempt but still..... a basic Chief is $30,000! And for what? Just so you can say you have a Chief. Thats a lot of dough to fork out for a scoot. Its BS man. You would think they would try to keep prices relatively competetive w/ H-D. Chiefs priced close to H-D Baggers and how about an inexpensive Scout to compete w/ the Sportster. Just my thoughts....

I don’t follow the marketing thought either. I try to push the idea of modernizing a Panhead, and meet much resistance. I really don’t see who the customers will be for the new Indian motorcycles, but I also would have never seen the market for a Starbucks coffee shop.

Re: $30,000 Chiefs
Actually the price of the "new" Indians is far less than 30K, although they are still on the high end.
As for a "modern" Panhead, the term is an Oxymoron. Panheads are great for what they are. A modern Panhead would never pass current regulations in terms of emissions, noise, or just about any other specification. And in the end, it would not even remotely resemble a Panhead. Sort of like the modern Indians.
The past is the past. Enjoy it, embrace it, but don't attempt to change it. You will be greatly disappointed.
