Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
Hi guys,
I bought "My Slice" in 1984, from a friend. It is a 1951 EL, with a jockey top tyranny and suicide clutch.
This was an upgrade from a 1976 Sportster, a7 big step up!
It is currently in a big pile of parts on my shop floor.
I am currently in the process of restoration to an OEM, or as close as I can get it.
Thanks for the look,

December 1st 1992. I traded a 1981 Sportster that was near death, and a very nice 1986 Sportster for it.

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
I've owned my 59 pan since around 1972. It's the only Harley I've ever owned. I road it for at least 3 years every day for the first 3 years I had it. The only vehicle I had at the time. I traded a 1933 ford pickup (which was chopped and channeled) with a 390 tri power motor for it. The truck was a project. I got the bike from Don Garlett's(the drag racer) brother. Can't remmember his first name. At the time it was a retired show bike. Sportster tank, 12" over glide front end, pullback bars, etc. Its been through a couple of reconfigurations since. Still ride it pretty regularly but no more long trips.
Here is a pictue of it now.

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
Owned my '55 Panhead for about 16 years, brought her home in boxes, lost her one afternoon on a crowded expressway, and sold her as salvage to the Dutch.
I've owned my '56 Panhead for about a week. Came home as a compete, albeit very spent bike and will soon end up in multiple boxes and crates while she undergoes a total rebuild.
I retire in two years and we are planning to move back out west. Just have to have her done by then.
I plan to die with her but am looking forward to teaching my grandson all about her before I go. ( He is only 10 so I have a few years to get him ready.)

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
I purchased my '56 FLH from the original owner back in 1983. I took it completely apart and cleaned or polished everything. The majority of the bike is original, as purchased, but I have replaced a few of the chrome pieces with NOS stuff I managed to find along the way at Davenport, Wauseon, and Farmington (in the old days).

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
Spring 1983 from the 2nd owner.
8 over, 18 inch english front wheel, no front brake or fender. But the frame was untouched (other than gold paint) and the engine, tranny, running gear, fuel and oil tanks were stock (other than the white flame pin striping. Double disc braked the beast (front end) fx/xl calipers on the stock legs, went down to 6 over, had it painted and ran it across the continent that same year. Went thru a couple versions 80's -up and down the west coast many times. Took it off the road in 2000, Been on eBay since 2005, that and swap meets have got me to starting a restoration this fall.

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
Last owner of my 55 FLH had it 59 years, original paint ( with touch ups), 19844 miles, foot shift
He bought it when it was about 18 months old.
Came with the original receipt of purchase in 57, handbooks, tools, and a DVD of home movies that his wife took in the 50s, with him riding it.
According to the Bruce Palmer book it is the 11th to last off the line in 55.
Fully loaded, I have added, nos enclosed chrome chain guard, nos mud flap, to make it more like it was when Danny owned it and a nos rear Eagle tip to bling it up. It came with the original enclosed chain guard and the original rear mud flap, but they were unsalvageable.

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
PS The muffler tips were originally off a 49 Studebaker, but the long time owner Daniel, who was an engineer, cast some new ones. Bike came with one new un chromed tip. I BELIEVE but am not an expert that the fender front guard and the rear seat grab rail are Superior.
The rear grill is also aftermarket, of an unknown brand. I have seen one exactly the same in a picture of a 48 pan, I believe this one was used cause it does not have a bracket underneath so you can fit a mud flap. I have been studying the Bruce Palmers book and apart from some extra chrome, the only thing that seems to be wrong is the head light lenses, it is old but aftermarket.
It has the one year only carb bracket, correct horn etc. Its a pity the seat was recovered about 2 years before I bought it, but it is a beautiful job.
I love it
Richard

Re: How Long Have You Owned your Pan?
I've had mine for four years it's just as I want it. It's got a 65 engine, transmission, front end with 48 tanks and various other Harley and aftermarket pieces to give it the look I wanted. It rides good and starts every time.
