Re: Any good WL/WLA/G Projects going on
Is that big twin master cylinder large enough capacity for the dual rear drum brakes? Since the OE MC has a 1" bore, and the BT MC is only 3/4" it will feel like power brakes, but a good chance the volume of fluid may be insufficient to keep things working as they should. Just something to keep in mind when the rear binders fail to work satisfactorily....

Good point. Those wheel cylinder pistons have a lot of travel. A 3/4" bore might not hold enough volume of fluid to actuate both rear brakes effectively unless they're adjusted close with very round drums and arced linings. I guess the proof is in the test rides.RooDog wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 6:38 pm Is that big twin master cylinder large enough capacity for the dual rear drum brakes? RooDog you nailed it, I bled the system today, it's too small. It will lock up the rear wheels but requires 2 pumps of the pedal. I believe this is a Wagner M/C , I'll have to check and see if they make a 1" bore in this style. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks!

Re: Any good WL/WLA/G Projects going on
Well I got lucky and found someone selling the R/S rear section of a hydraulic brake Servi-car frame with master cylinder mount.
Hopefully I can still get the linkage and rods. More to follow.
Thanks!

If it takes 2 pumps of the pedal to get some braking you still have air in your lines. 3/4 id master cylinder is plenty big for this small of a system.

It's best to use the right parts then to try and cobble something together to make do....
And Mike has the right part....

Technically she's done, Needs gas, oil, and a battery. I'll work on the brake modification after I road test it and actually she how bad the 3/4" brake bore is. I did bleed it again, same results.

Re: Any good WL/WLA/G Projects going on
Not only is the 3/4" bore less than specified, but the fluid capacity is also less. Just another thing to keep an eye on. And you don't want to lose the brakes....
When the Servis went to hydraulic rear braked in 1951 the Big Twins were still using mechanical, not to go to hydraulic until, 1958. So the BT MS didn't even exist in the early 1950s....

Re: Any good WL/WLA/G Projects going on
Thanks for pointing this out for me before I took it on the road!! . It may be ok for " around the block" driving, but taking it on the roadway would be a disaster. Thanks for your help and info!
