1959 tank badges
I am in the process of tearing down my 59 Panhead for work and am going to get it back to original color skyline blue/birch white. My question is, I have 2 sets of original badges; one set appears to have been stripped and buffed and are plain chrome, and the other set has remnants of red around the arrow, but the letters are black. I have seen them in many photos as having red everywhere, including the lettering. Which is correct? Did it matter what the overall bike color was, or was there only one color scheme for the year?
And does anyone have a color code or insight into the red to be used?
Thanks for any help you can lend.
Joel

Re: 1959 tank badges
thanks for that page of info...still not sure from that whether the letters werre black or red (have seen them both way), although it appears clear that the ball around the arrow was red.
Any suggestions as to the color of that red though? Was it the same as the tin paint?
Thanks for the quick response.
Best regards,
Joel

Re: 1959 tank badges
According to Greg Field the letters and background were both red, but I have no paintnumber.

Re: 1959 tank badges
::)i also have a 59 pan (i purchased it from my twin brothers estate/he owned this bike for 30 years)ok how do you identify the 59 tank badges /from being original or re-pop
Re: 1959 tank badges
The harley badges have the word "ACME" on the backside, in raised lettering. They also have a harley part number which I can't remember, but it ends in -59. They're also heavier.

Re: 1959 tank badges
The -59T badges are not original, but are the Eagle Iron variety.
I think the Eagle Iron line of parts came out in 95, and that's where H-D started offering their own line of re-pop parts.
