Home made tools

#1

Post by panhead »

I guess we all have made or adjusted tools to get jobs done (like tranny sprocket nut), so I thought it might be a good idea to share them here. Please post pictures.

Guess this tool?

Post by Cotten »

Since a home made tool can be anything from a rock by the side of the road to dyno test cell, I would like contribute something extremely simple, and exclusively for Panheads.

Who can guess its function first?

Correct, it is a torqueplate for honing panhead rocker arms.

Too easy I guess.
Here's another easy one...fits all makes and models....

Cotten--
That one looks like it is either for getting the attention of an employee, customer, or a ferrel dog.
Or maybe could be used for straightning a bent or twisted rod.

mbskeam,

Mine is similar to yours but a little lower tech. The regulator is attached to the compressor.

I guess I made it too easy! Everybody must straighten rods.

So let's get specific with this next one...

I think it would double as a nose hair comb or and for undercutting the commutator mica.

Sorry,
It is a thread chaser for the nipple bores in the heads.

Many heads are damaged by improper removal of the riveted nipple inserts. Occasionally, the damage to the threads is minor enough that this hand tool can 'straighten' them, or even open the bore enough for a .010" oversized nipple.
It is merely a small section of a spent nipple that has been silver-soldered to a nutdriver. The edge has been ground to a rake to enhance cutting.

Let's keep it simple with this next one...
I use it quite often.

looks like it would work well for keeping spacers, drums, and hubs lined up and in place before pushing the axle through.

When I was a kid (a LONG time ago) Grandma had a cue stick hanging in the shed just like that, one of our routine chores involved hauling all the carpets out to the clothes line and beating the dust out of them with the stick. She didn't have a Harley, or play pool, so I'm sure that was the only reason she kept it.

From the equally spaced marks on the stick, I would have to guess that it is used as a measuring device.
