Repop fuel/oil tanks
anyone have any dealing with repop tanks? I've had a little seep in my tank. when I started cleaning it off I'm find ing why. So I have been shopping tanks. I have older shift patter but came with 47 style tank. https://www.45restoration.com/Products/ ... 00-47.aspx
Been looking at these and 41-46 tanks. Just curious about issues. if any. thank you

Re: Repop fuel/oil tanks
I used a set of repro tanks on a 45 a few years ago.
The motor wet sumped very badly & by disconnecting pipes & plugging them one by one , I was able to prove that the oil return line was the problem.
That internal return pipe was not made as the original. It curved around the back of the filler hole & dipped down deep into the tank & allowed the oil to syphon back down through the scavenge pump & flood the engine !!
Looking through the filler cap , I could see the pipe & drilled a 3 mm hole in it , so the pipe could suck air in & not syphon !!
This cured the problem.
I had to file // slot all the mounting holes in the repro gas//oil tanks to get them to sit lower & further back to allow the dash base to fit in !!!!
Flatboy.

Re: Repop fuel/oil tanks
Thank you for this info. My main issue is the fuel tank. Gonna put some pressure to it and see if I can do anything . Gotta get all the fill off.flatboy1950 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 1:35 pm I used a set of repro tanks on a 45 a few years ago.

Re: Repop fuel/oil tanks
And may I also ask, you thing mig weld is best to repair? I just don't wanna burn through it. And I'm guessing the sealer won't survive the heat/repair?

Re: Repop fuel/oil tanks
Someone probably put too long a bolt in it and punched through the threaded tube.

Re: Repop fuel/oil tanks
Factory mounts are spot welded, no visible welds on them. '50 and '51 are different emblems. There is a '47-'50, and a '51-'53.
