Bead wont seat?

#1

Post by Diesel10r »

Quick question, how much air can a tube handle? I've got 2 tires for my WL that just wont pop. Put about 40psi, bangged em around a little, more lube. nothing seems to wanna help. The beads were about touching each other went I got them.

The tube only provides a leak proof container for the air. The tire casing contains the pressure. blow that sucker up, try 60 pounds....

This method is not OSHA approved, but it does work in a pinch....

With some tubeless tires we have had to flame them with some combustible liquid, like brake clean, or ether, to get a stubborn tubeless tire to seat. I don't know it that would work with a tube though....

A tube in the wild, not captured within a tire will blow at a relatively low pressure, I doubt that nothing short of an nuclear blast will hurt a good sound tire....
Hey, just kidding, please don't go nuclear....

Something is wrong if they do not seat at 60 psi, try another tire or rim.

Are those "safety bead" rims? If so you will need to get the bead over the rib, best done by starting it against the bead on one small area and working the bead over progressively. It probably won't stretch on all the way around at once.
What are you using for lube?

I used to make some extra cash in a professional tire shop and I experienced this quite often incl MC tires with tubes
Of course the rim needs to be clean and well lubed, particularily MC rims

Once a tire doesn`t seat I don`t waste time and inflate them right away with 90psi (tube and tubeless)
If this doesn`t help I grab the wheel , lift it above my head and throw it with all my might onto the floor, catching it again and repeating this till it "plops"

The shop owner asked me to use 60psi first not because of bursting the tube/tire but the compressor running all the time = $$$$ :!:
With some wheels we have used all the pressure the compressor and air fittings is able to supply: 140psi
Once it "plops" we always changed the valves thereafter

The non seating issue is the very reason I`m not using Heidenau tires anymore.
Currently Heidenau K34 on the Pan
Fantastic tires !
Mileage, dry, wet handling A1 but on any Heidenau I used on my Shovelchop and Pan K65 + K34 I worked my butt off to make them seat maybe because of their mad reinforcement wires in the rubber (RF mark on wall of tire)
On my own wheels I don`t use new tubes, Only when it`s looks that it is maybe time for a new one

I've been through this and also found that overinflating the tube (in the tire, of course) and bouncing it around will eventually get the bead to seat with a loud pop. My compressor makes 100 psi and I had the regulator wide open last time I had to do this. The first time I tried this I was a little on edge, waiting for things to blow at any time, but it was all good.

Have you tried inflating without valve core fitted? And plenty of lube.
