I have half boogered threads on the outer top nipple on a rigid oil tank. Does anyone know of that nipple can be chased with a die ?, or the best way to repair it ?..

Yes, the thread can be chased with a 9/16-24 die, available from Mc Master-Carr, but the die is pricey @ $ 84.00 usd

A common thread file will clean them right up!

Avoid McMaster and Graingers (Zoro). Chinese junk sold to the highest bidder.

I maintain a large fleet and have been using McMaster-Carr for years and never experienced a quality issue, but I do know they stock alot of the hard to find fasteners and they ship immediately. Can't say the same for W.W. Grainger though.

Unless you are in the business of reconditioning OE Harley oil fittings I see no point in springing for a "quality" piece. Repurpose you buckies for something else, like beer, maybe.....

Re: Thread size for rigid oil tank nipples
When working with crossed threads or trying to clean up threads that have been chrome plated you'll want the sharpest, most accurate cutter available.
When knuck and pan tanks are bringing $500 - $1200 the cost of a quality tool seems fairly reasonable. YMMV

My point was if you're going to buy Chinese junk. Pay the going rate not the bend over rate.

McMaster-Carr is typically more expensive than other vendors, but I receive orders in less than 24 hours. And they have in stock uncommon items such as PEEK.
