STARTER RING GEAR?
Does anybody know what year the MoCo started using this type of ring gear.

Re: STARTER RING GEAR?
Pictured is the earlier clutch shell, or basket, 1965-1969. The ring gear was repositioned for the 1970 and newer models. I know this does not answer your question.....

Re: STARTER RING GEAR?
I have the same three piece ring gear on my '68. Parts book lists starter ring gear as 33163-65B, and '65 was first year for electric start, so I'd say it has to be 1965. The parts book makes no distinction between the 3-piece "laminated" ring gear and the later solid one. Just says "65 to Early 84".

Re: STARTER RING GEAR?
Thanks for the replys. The reason I asked was I was kind of using the three piece as a positive identification for an OEM vice aftermarket drum. I know both types came from the MoCo. I guess I should have asked if there were another way to Identify the OEM over the aftermarket. Every once in a while I see a smoking deal on someones primary "take offs" My Tedds drum doesn't sit well in the back of my mind.

Re: STARTER RING GEAR?
Hogey....
The tranny is gone. An eBay deal that I'm not particularly fond of because of shipping charges and a dead beat buyer.
I have some clutch shells with both a ten spring Barnett clutch pack, and another with a Rivers Primo clutch.
But , alas, shipping to OZ would be a bite....

Re: STARTER RING GEAR?
NO, With price and poor quality of today's (not all) aftermarket I sometimes find myself running what I can get at the time, and never pass up the good deal on oem "take offs". No panheads in my (small) stable.
