I use black RTV and a nut only, but does this mean shovels didn't use an exhaust gasket till 1968?

I can't see running without rocker box gaskets. Just looked in my 58-68 Parts Catalog and sure enough there's no gasket pictured or listed, but I'm using them.

The rocker cover gasket , 17540-69, has an end number of -69.
But I can't see running without them, especially if one were to developer a leak without them, one would have to pull the offending head to install said gasket, and best to service both heads at that time. And don't forget the added expense of head gaskets. Oh, but then those of us with 1968 and older Shovels run the risk of losing our potential for 100 point status.....
