Oil Pump "extended" nut-wrench size
Hi folks:
I went to tighten up my oil pump nuts on the '52 FL yesterday, and I could get a wrench on all of them except for the extended one in the rear. The oil line fitting is in the way.
I tried thinning down a 7/16" socket and sneaking the wrench handle into place, but I couldn't get the socket to slip over the nut.
Does the extended nut take a 7/16 wrench. like the other nuts do?

Yes, it does. And if all is original there shouldn't be anything in the way.

I made a ignition circuit breaker tool to get that pesky hard to reach inside bolt by taking a 7/16" box wrench, heated it with a torch and bent it about 90 degrees, it reaches around the circuit breaker drive housing effectively and should work on the oil pump nut.

Andy....
Got a picture?
That nut should be accessible if the oil fitting is stock type.
Do notice that there is a special extended fitting that goes into the OP plate. # 26424-50, 1950-64....

Re: Oil Pump "extended" nut-wrench size
Thanks, guys.
Robbie, I think if I made a list of everything that is not stock on this bike, it would be pretty long.....LOL
Roo, thanks for that photo, I do not have that extended oil line fitting-on my bike the large flare nut is right next to the hex head on the extended oil pump nut.
Stan, I like the idea, and I may make one for use on my circuit breaker, but the problem I am having here is that there is very little clearance between the flare nut and the oil pump nut.
I did some more surgery on my socket, thinned it down a bit more and shortened it about 0,2", an I managed to get it in there and snug up the pump nut.

Re: Oil Pump "extended" nut-wrench size
Well, I just got back from a 5-day trip on the bike, and the stock fitting was waiting for me, so I decided to install it.
I found that the oil pump cover had been opened up to a pipe thread for the fitting that was on there, so I had to Helicoil it back to 3/8-24 to fit the new fitting.
Now it is in place, and I also found that the return line fitting to my oil filter was leaking, so I was able to fix that as well.
