DashCover and Speedometer identification
Are there any numbers on the OEM Speedos and Dashcovers from the 60s?

Re: DashCover and Speedometer identification
OEM Speedometers will generally have some ink stamped numbers on the back side. There are also other easy repop tells such as the spacing the screws holding the face plate on.

Re: DashCover and Speedometer identification
OEM speedometer face plates have a small Stewart Warner set of characters and part number on the very edge of the rim. There are only a few types for the '60s. What year? And there were KPH types used on factory export bikes.DeltaElite wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 3:17 pm Are there any numbers on the OEM Speedos and Dashcovers from the 60s?
Dash covers do not have numbers.

Hmpf.... Didn't make a photo of backside. Was too busy with the engine. Bike is 1962 FLH
So we'll have to wait till next week when I can get to the garage again to have a look...
Can we tell something from the face side?

Examples,
think I sold the Tombstone one.
The crisper the stamp, in my book is suspect.
But alas I have been wrong/mistaken more than once.

Re: DashCover and Speedometer identification
I`m anything but an expert and own a km/h tombstone
The speedos` face looks good to me
The slotted round head screws and the needle bearing on the same center line. The logo looks right.
And I second Buddhas suspicion about a crisp stamp on the back but I know dealer (not speedo repair shops) who swap old buckets between speedos

The patina on the face looks good to me.DeltaElite wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 6:29 pm Hmpf.... Didn't make a photo of backside. Was too busy with the engine. Bike is 1962 FLH

I have had one of these Tombstone speedos apart and found the face plate to be screen printed black over raw brushed a aluminum. So there is no protection to the metal as it would be if anodized, so the patination is correct and/or to be expected.
