12 volt cutout relay

#1

Post by chop1543 »

Looking for a Delco-Remy look-alike electronic cut-out relay for a 12 volt system. I went to the v-tronics website, and they directed me to Samwel, but I didn't seen anything on that site. Is such a piece available?

Check with Visionary Cycle Products or Cimarron Cycle Works, both are Samwell dealers.

Do you really want to pay an inflated import price when there is probably the exact same part available in the US?

No, I don't. Guide me to what I'm after that's made (or sold) in USA!

Here's one.

But I can't vouch for it 'cause I use Cycle Electric, or an alternator.....

The one on eBay is a buck and a quarter, but with free shipping. The feature about the one from across the pond is that is has indicator lights in it which tell whether the charging system is working correctly. It's $122 and change, and I know the shipping will probably be costly. Haven't decided yet. And I still have to look at the project's generator and lighting. A fast look at it and I think the genny is a 65A, but the former owner installed a magic box instead of an older 12 volt regulator, and it's in a spot where it interferes with the spark advance cable, among other things. Thanks to all who responded. I'll post pics and upgrades as I dive into this one.

if one is building anything other than a 100 point restoration, the Cycle Electric system is the way to go. since their regulator is built into the end cap with a needle bearing included it takes up very little more space than the OE end cap, perhaps only a half inch or less of additional length.

Thanks RooDog. Looks like a pretty clean setup. I'll run it by the guy and see if he insists on restoration looks or not.

My .02: The CE-Endbell is a proven product ... it`s just the view ....

The CE-Endbell adds a 1.5".
Reg the spacing if he wants to use a rocker-clutch:
You better take off the rocker-assy (kick stand :? ).
Yes, you can take out the whole assy and put it back in but once putting it back I was never sure whether the gasket at the motor and shim (if needed) will stay put. That`s why I always removed the rocker-assy

The CE-unit worked flawlessly with my 6amps sealed battery however the view wasn`t to my liking so I installed the 12V V-tronic unit in a fake 6V cutout relay housing. 1000mls since installation so far so good.

Be aware that many dealers are selling Tedd's part, VT No: 32-1341, at inflated pricing.
I don't know about its quality, but the CE is proven. Also, check with CE, I think they also have a stand-alone electronic regulator, but it would lack the temperature sensing technology of the end cap style....

There are also 2 types of the CE regulator one being the low output model.

The latter being meant for small 12-volt battery in an OE wrap around oil tank, kick start only. And if using a larger battery/E-start, the higher output reg is recommended. I know this should be obvious, but it's best not to assume anything, as there are folks that need this information....

Roodog,

Agreed, I researched and called Cycle Electric to determine which setup would be best for my 12 volt conversion. Individuals should do the same when changing to aftermarket configurations. I had to run out the door and neglected to add more specifics.
