Pig snout kicker covers

V-twin pigsnout kicker covers
43-0148 , '51 -'67
43-0153 , '37 - '50
What's the difference? Both physically look the same in V-twin catalog, both have same 33277-36 assigned and both list as '36 - '84.
I guess it means both fit my 70's trans but I want to make informed decision so what is there to know and consider?

There are no differences in function, just looks.

Here is the Pig Snout kicker cover I got from Tedd's V-Twin for my project 1950 FL. # 43-0148. It was perfect in every way, sans OEM casting numbers.
The filler plug is also improved with a sealing O ring. This kicker cover is correct for the early Panny.
So the question is, what year model looks are you looking for, a Shovelhead? then the 1968-84 would be more appropriate.
But more directly,the difference between the two you are asking about, is that the earlier version has a casting boss for the earliest vent screw located above the kicker gear. The later trannies had that breather relocated to the case proper, and later still to one of the shifter cover screws.

replaced the On that Panny rebuild, I only replaced the bumper plate, one piece kicker arm / shaft combo, and the kicker cover. I was amazed how smooth that bike was to kick start. All the rest of the internals are OEM from days gone fast.....

S&S makes a pig snout cover that includes casting numbers, various flaws, finish, etc., that is supposed to be an exact reproduction. Of course being S&S it's pricey. With all the work I did on my OEM pig snout cover including blasting bad chrome plating off of it, having a crack welded, new bushings, etc., I probably could have bought the S&S. Anyway, it sounds like you're happy with your V-Twin version. From the picture it looks pretty nice.

Late to the party but I bought one of Tedds pigsnout covers years ago. It just needed to be clearanced inside for the witch had throw-out bearing.
