Inline Springer Handlebars...OEM or Repop

#1

Post by Derek43WLC »

Hi All,
This is actually the first time I'm looking for a some handlebars...
I have come across some "old" inline springer handlebars...look old, multi layered paint...BUT are they oem or repop?
Are there any signs/features that I can distinguish between the two?
Thanks in advance.

Repop...prob polish

ALL the repops are welded, whereas the OEM's were braized at least until '43.
That hard black paint is another telltail..

Thanks Pascal,
Yes, I am aware of of the brazing , then welding.
So if later handlebars, they would be both welded.
Are there any other features that repop's may have that can distinguish them from oem, like maybe spiral ends, holes for switches, etc...

Derek.

Repop castings are often crude, as can been seen on this one too.
Look at the central boring; it's not concentral with the casting..
You won't see that on OEM castings

The rings on the bars for the grip sleeve do not look like H-D.

The hole where the wiring comes out is drilled at quite an angle in the original bars , so there is a natural chamfer to guide the wires out. Repro are drilled at 90 degrees & often have a sharp edge waiting to rip the insulation.
