Linkert M74 Price?

#1

Post by 1964 pan »

A fellow has a M74 that I'm looking at buying. It's all there. Manifold included. Looks to be in fair shape. Clean. Everything moves with no binding. I didn't check it out as much as I should. The guy is about halfway in a 120 mile route I take. He is asking $340.00 for it. Is that a fair price? Thanks.

There are several variations of M74 and M74 B. What are you trying to do? Finish a correct restoration? Just put a brass Linkert on a bike it was removed from? More information is needed. And without pictures there is no way to try and judge value.
Worn shafts? Worn body with deep eyebrows?, factory finish or polished chopper stuff?
The possibilities are endless.

If I was searching for a m74(b) and I could get one for ±€300 and it's pretty much complete but needs revision I would take it and work with it.

Well. As I said I didn't check it out as much as I should because it was a cold call and I was not thinking about it at the time. The fellow had a lot of stuff. Later I thought it would be a spare for my 1964. As we all know those old carbs don't grow on trees. It was old stock. At glance it looked fair. Next time I am over that way I can go over it with a fine tooth comb. Thanks for the advice.

There are 4 variations, and you would need the latest one for a correct '64 carb. Luckily it tends to be the most common of them. Here is a picture previously posted here showing the M74 and 4 versions of M74B. The small inset shows the variation in the "B" itself, the side views show the differences in the castings.
