After seeing shifter shaft, definitely safer to replace the case.
If there is no evidence of accident damage (like bike slammed hard by car, big hit to clutch deformed wall of trans, feeling for the rider right now), could also be a MoCo screw up, replaced under warranty, but not returned to factory for supervised scrapping, later re-discovered and sold off, not supposed to happen, but it did.

Already have a few. Now I'm making a lamp out of my old pitted gears and spent mainshaft.

No, I don't have the base part it bolts to yet, I did try the top and sure enough, the alignment pins don't line up.

Here is a photo I found on Ebay of a "new" main drive gear.
Can we assume the bushing is in correct?

Yep, close oil "scroll" to outside does not break out of bush (to keep the oil where its needed), inner helix grooves do break out of bush (to get the oil to where its needed)
IMO With the small seal to mainshaft, you don't really need the outside scroll.
But I wouldn't use the steel backed bush, go for solid bronze like you already have.
