intake seal question

#1

Post by Diesel10r »

So a while back I replaced the brass intake packing. Seemed I had a leak after as the bike would idle with the idle screw all the way out. Only think I can think is I put the packing in incorrectly. As the book is terrible, I got some new PEEK seals and just wanna ask, taper goes toward the nut? :?

So question, how tight do the intake nuts have to get?? My idle is up an down , will run with idle screw all the way out. spray by the nuts with brake cleaner and it settles out. Thought I had it but I only have channel lock pliers right now, do I need the wrench? cant seem to find a generic wrench that size locally.

Until you don't get bubbles while pressure testing your assembled manifold. Simply torqueing them, does not insure you don't have a leak.

No carb. Just make sure the flange on the manifold and carb are sanded flat. Then use gaskets and isolator when bolting the carb on after everything is bubble free at 12to 15 PSI.

Also check to make sure the threaded nipple does not leak where it screws into the cylinder. This is common.

Look in your parts manual, it's a black fiber insulating spacer about 1/4" thick sandwiched between two gaskets.....
gaskets: 27411-40, and the insulating block: 27412-48. The pictures don't tell the real story.....
