Re: 45 oil pump
Thanks Kitabel. One more thing. Will 12psi at idle and 35psi at higher rpms put to much oil in the cam case?

Re: 45 oil pump
Getting a little more out of the breather than I would like and wonder if cutting down the pressure will help. I know everything is good with the breather timing and return pump.

Re: 45 oil pump
Perhaps smoothing out the return line would allow more scavenging. A smooth metal line will slide the oil back to the tank with less resistance than rubber lines that hold a greater volume and weight of oil and may not be smooth on the inside anymore.

Re: 45 oil pump
Has nothing to do with oil pressure.
Your flutter valve in the cam cover gasket surface stopped working.

Re: 45 oil pump
Thanks,Kitabel. Was thinking along those lines but never had that happen. Flutter was ok at rebuild 2500 miles ago but anything can happen with these old things. Not loosing much oil. Just messy. Ever try flushing system with kerosene to do a magic trick? Just a dreamy thought!

Re: 45 oil pump
The failed valves I've examined generally look all right but did not move when vacuum applied.

Re: 45 oil pump
Just a silly thought, but you are runnning the flathead generator gear with built in oil slinger aren't you Also wouldn't hurt to check the proper clearance between genny gear and sleeve on cam cover for gear to fit up to....
Finally, I got tired of the mess and made my own breather tube that vented to a 1/2'" diameter flexible tubing and runs back to the rear chain. Now that part of the engine keeps alot cleanerv

Re: 45 oil pump
I dearly hope you painted it black, or something....
Something I have been experimenting with lately is covering such fabrications with heat shrink tubing... It's quick & easy, don't chip, scratch, rust, or melt.... What's not to like.....

Re: 45 oil pump
I also tried a couple of other ideas on the breather back when I was having trouble keeping oil inside of the 88" flattie. Here's one that didn't work The idea was to copy the Sportster slinger setup, you know, just a flat washer and no collar to mate up to the slinger. I measured out stuff and tried to copy Sportster dimensions, but the idea was a big bust! Hey, if you don't try, you won't know

Re: 45 oil pump
Replace flutter or make a breather tube will take time to complete so it will have to wait till winter. Though not getting much ride time I don't want to shut down now. Just live with it till then. Thanks to all you guys for helping me with this 69 servi. Any more ideas out there just bring them.
