Two Piece Breaker Points

#1

Post by droptopford »

Wasn't sure where to post this.
Anyone know where I can find decent quality 2-piece points for my '48 Pan? My last NOS pair are getting pretty rough.
Tried the 'Search' function but came up empty.

Are yoe referring to the coil spring type or the blade spring type? Both are "two piece" and both are commonly used on Panheads. The coil spring type was stock in '48, the blade started in '49 but was often retrofitted.

Well Robbie, the ones I'm running now are the coil spring type. I really don't care what type I replace them with as long as they're good quality, fit properly etc. What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Clark

Hey Boys, for anyone that's using the 49 and later single point timer, Napa has a nice set up. The condenser has a copper strap for its lead and the points have a copper strap in addition to the stainless spring for tension and connectivity. What's better then copper for electrons ? The part number for the points is CS779A and the condenser is AL868. I've attached some pix. The points have their own bushing pivot point instead of using the timers post for a pivot. Very nice.

I'll look into that NAPA set up LEO... Thanks. I'm sure it will work for some of my later model bikes. Maybe can figure a way to put them into stock '48 timer.?. Can't tell much without seeing them and unfortunately those attachments didn't attach.

Still, somewhat disappointing that no one has any source for the older style

Old style are on eBay by the dozens, both reproduction and original Military surplus.

On my daily rider type builds I use bases previously damaged by posts broken off etc., and mount '70s era Shovelhead points on them.

Just in agreement: When I use points, that is the way I do it too....
