Can someone make out the manufacturer's name?
Thanks.
Steve Slocombe mentions them in his book, Harley Davidson 1930-1936 Big Twins. "Experimental aluminum heads were also tried in 1935 and I have one set marked WW SMITH PORTLAND ORE on the rear, and COMMERCIAL on the front". "They are copies of the 8.2 iron heads but did not give superior performance so did not make it into production"

The flyer in the window proclaiming the motorcycle races on Sunday, August 1st matches up. August 1st was a Sunday in 1937. Bud was 6 years old in the picture.

RUBONE wrote: Tue May 25, 2021 8:28 pm I believe the 9 bolt cylinders were only for the 80" engines, the VLH/VLHS and not the VD. That is likely the original set with those heads bolted on to replace the original low compression heads that would have been on a VD.
WOW. That makes all the sense in the world now that you say it. I was thinking wrong for 10 years.
9 bolt cylinders were used on all 36 V series
just 80” had them relieved
74” without relieving

same casting just bit differently machined

Having all that material with the bike is real history.
IMO way more intrinsically valuable than "judging" points.
Thank you for sharing
