I believe it may bolt/weld under the front motor mount. Just what I need.

This item pictured is shown up-side-down & backwards. The three holes toward you are for the shifter & side stand for a Big Twin, the far end has two 3/8-16 screw holes for the brake pedal assembly. This is a Big Twin item, but surely it could be modified and massaged to work with your custom 45 frame, but nothing is gonna be easy, access to a machine shop would be helpful....

I could use brake control with built in MC, right?
What is the purpose of the flattened area on the brake side?
Image

So I considered buying recently a very nice '56 Pan and also was looking at a nice '76 Shovel.
Neither really needed any work.
But after some thought I decided that as nice it would be to own and ride these,
what I am interested in is the satisfaction of building and fixing up.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

The flat place near the brake bracket may be for exhaust pipe clearence, but you are gonna make up your own pipes, right?

I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for to ride out of your shop, and when. The Pan and Shovelhead bike will need work, probably enough to satisfy one's need to tinker with, but could be riders in a reasonably short period of time. I really don't envision that 45 being street legal and ridable any near as quickly as either of those Big Twins.

How did you acquire that Paughco frame?

RooDog you are definitely a glass half empty person!

But yeah I agree any 50 or 75 year old machine will need attention eventually anyway.
I've got my BSA Lightning and my Triumph Choppa to ride. I'm mostly a coffee shop hopper anyway.
What's wrong with the aftermarket pipes available? I think some are 1 1/2".

I found the basket case on FB marketplace. Frame, 51 G motor that looks good outwardly. No carb or gen but manifold I can put a Mikuni on.
A 15" spoke rear with disc and 21 front with tire, rear fender, 51 tooth sprocket, the Buell fork, split fuel tanks, polygonic oil tank, the trans case, kicker cover and parts, clutch, silencer, seat and mounting parts, headlight, handlebar, chain, tach, some wire and other misc pieces I haven't identified. A real project.
It's winter here and I need to do some rearranging anyway to start working on it.

Oh, and it's Titled!

I'm sorry, I could never identify with the half empty/half full BS. It has no relevance to me.

The reason I asked about the frame was if it was some one else's cast off, and given up on project.

Regarding pipes: So many aftermarket pipes simply don't fit worth a darn, and home fabbed, cut, fitted, and welded are so much more appropriate to a custom build.

Nick, good luck with your project, I have nothing else to say....

That's the right size, but since the engine is over to the left side (1"? from std. so its sprocket taper lines up with the BT clutch drum) the pipes will fit the engine, but may run into frame and transmission parts.
Both cylinder's exhaust ports point away from the engine and down, but at different angles. IMHO it will require some fabbing to get a compound curve that clears everything, then runs horizontal to the rear. Open exhaust is of course the easiest, 2 mufflers will make it more difficult. Making then chroming will be $$$.

A pair of cross member bars will give you mounts for controls, the easiest attachment is the motor mount holes with longer bolts. However, the bar should go under the mounts to avoid raising the engine. Do you need both front and rear? IDK.
The stock BT foot shift bracket must mount where it has a clear run for the shifter shaft back to the transmission lid.
Here's a 45 frame in silhouette. Note the height difference between front & rear mounts - yours are the same.

Personally I'd forego any 45 controls and just use the BT type, especially if juice brakes are used. Way easier.

No, it didn't, as I already explained:
4. There are no provisions on that frame for the strap-mounted side controls used on every 45.
These are the controls, they attach to the ends of shafts which pass through 2 loops on the frame (which yours doesn't have).

Your frame has the motor mounts offset well to the left, so the original shafts won't work.
Sorry for the intrusion,

Kitabel,

Could I ask you where you got those items?

Getting back to my long lasting WLA/KH project and I need something like this

Thanks in advance, George
The pedals shown are standard for every Servi-Car from '47-'73. The solo models used a rocker type clutch pedal until the end in '52.

Robbie, thank you.

No offense intended in my off hand comment. You are of course correct in that my project will at times be difficult and challenging
and will surely take some time and money. But I expect some learning, fun and satisfaction to come with it.
I hope you continue to follow and offer your experienced advice. I'll need all the help I can get.

Oh, OK. Hadn't seen that. That's a BT frame.
So when I called Paugho, Ian offered me the foot control part they put on that frame.

I’ve been reading this thread with interest.

My advice to anyone building a 45 using a custom or replica frame, would be “get the Samwel repop frame”. Everything fits, everything bolts together and there is now a 4-speed handshift aftermarket transmission available. You can also buy an external foootshifter unit repop, if your taste, and wallet run that way.
