oil pump drive gears upgrade
Wanted to install upgraded drive gears for the '52 motor. Bought a set from s&s. The pinion shaft drive gear would not fit on the shaft. Measured across the top of 2 spines on the shaft and got .848". Inside the new gear across any 2 spline keys I got .845" at best. Back to the shop, ordered another. Brought my calipers to check the new one when it came in, and it's the same as the first new one! The measurement across the inside of the old gear is .850". Anybody ever run into this problem? I'm sure the pinion shaft is OEM.

Re: oil pump drive gears upgrade
Three thou interference is too much, even for a press fit. I bought my 1973 pinion gear from Tedd's V-Twin, it fit properly, and mated with the OEM driven gear, from eBay, just fine, and all for a lot less money than $&$ is getting....

Re: oil pump drive gears upgrade
I didn't expect to have this much trouble with the fit. I figured that pinion oil gear would slide on the spline, and the spring, spacer and pinion timing gear would hold everything together when you put the timing cover on. That's the way it came out!!
