Exhaust Pipe Temperature?

#1

Post by Malikio »

Anyone know the approximate (average) running temperature of the exhaust pipes and/or heat shields? I would like to powder coat the shields, the paint shop says they will easily hold up to 400 degress F as they bake it at that temp.

The shields should be OK with polyester powder. The exhaust pipes will need high temperature powder available online.

Remember that powder coating is literally melted plastic. Get ahold of a hand held infrared thermometer and check some pipe an a running motorcycle for factual information, don't trust someone elses word for it. Ceramic coating have been used on exhaust for decades, have proven reliable, and come in a variety of colors, though not nearly what is available in powder, black and silvers being the most common.....
