Aermacchi ss350 tach drive

Post by 6hds »

Tach drive appears never to have been apart. bearings supporting driving gear are open ball bearings lubed by the gear chamber lube. Replacement bearings from HD Aermacchi are shielded. Leave the shields or remove them? Thanks, Gary

Oh, man, I just noticed this . . .

Anyways, is your tach drive NOT off the generator? I'm not familiar with how the later sprints did some things . . .but all the early models drove them off the generator and the only lubrication comes from the zerk fitting getting a touch of grease. The bearing shield is help keep that lube off the generator. Again, I'm not familiar with what happened when they went 12v.

Chuck, My 72 has the tach drive is off the generator. The zerk fitting would lube both shafts if I took the shields off. I'm thinking of removing the inside shields, helping keep lube out of the generator, then they would be lubed by the zerk too. Thanks for the reply, Pictures coming soon. Gary
