Aermacchi ss350 question
Air filters seem to be a rare item to find. Is there any air filter that will work on a stock filter mount for a 1972 SS350? Thanks, Gary

Re: Aermacchi ss350 question
I swapped to a k&n knock off in black. Very unobtrusive and the motor woke up.
Just measure the outside diameter of the carb spigot. I want to say it's 40-45mm, but can't remember. I want to say it cost me $10 online.

Re: Aermacchi ss350 question
Thanks Chuck, I got one of those that came with the bike. I had a thought about running the stock air filter assembly I have for originality. I have no filter for it. Thinking about going to a metric bike or farm and garden dealer to see what will work. I did get it running and it sounds real good. Thanks for all your help. Gary

Re: Aermacchi ss350 question
To be honest, all the nos paper filters I had were crumbly, so I tried a uni foam filter first. It strangled the bike. The pod solved many an issue. I saved the original, but don't plan to use it again. These bikes came tuned pretty mildly. Just a wee bit of tweaking really wakes them up. However, swapping filters does leave the pocket in the fuel tank unused. . .
Give Lesley at moto Italia a ring. He has two storage units of spares. Saved my bacon when I needed a 69 header pipe, which can be difficult to find in good condition.

Re: Aermacchi ss350 question
To all....
If you go to K&N's web site and look real hard you can find air filters listed by application, but more importantly by dimensions, but it took me quite a lot of looking to find an exact fit for one of my hot rod projects. They are expensive compared to the commonly available foam and paper filters but it is the last filter you will ever need to buy for that app.
The below pictured foam filter died on the shelf having never been run on my Panhead. Fuel saturation and flaming backfires will destroy a foam filter, best not to use one.....
