Not overly concerned about originality, just thought it looked good.

H-D never used a brass knob in raw finish on any shutoff. All were chrome or painted. In fact H-D didn't use raw brass anywhere on a bike, any brass parts had some finish on them.

I know that Robbie. My brother started all the brass plating on this bike and I just followed the theme. I still have the OEM knob in my parts stash.

This was to the original poster asking what is correct, not to you. With any kind of custom, all bets are off!!

Roger that. That's why I stated that I wasn't overly concerned about originality. Just wanted to show the OP what it looked like on the bike.

FL54, your pic doesn't help the original poster as the knob you show isn't even an H-D part, but is off an old stove or heater.

Re reading the original post, you're right Robbie. He was asking if the OEM knob was brass. I don't remember where I got my knob. I just thought it looked good and it sure is easier to turn on and off than the original. No harm , no foul.

I appreciate the input. I had several knobs in the pile, rusty ones, painted ones and the brass one, just wondered if it was an original option.

Maybe the finish is worn off from use? Sure happens to the door knobs in the house.

There are lots of brass knobs out there from the aftermarket. Usually an easy way to tell a reproduction shutoff is the light colored brass top knob. It is a Taiwan thing..
