Transmission alignment

#1

Post by dspoon19 »

I have a 1961 FLHF that's almost complete. I am trying to search in the manual and this forum but can't find a procedure to align the transmission to the motor and tension it properly. Motor is aligned with frame and shimmed and bolted properly. Any direction on the tranny alignment would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

The tranny case fits in a slot on the tranny mount plate, this keeps the tranny aligned with the engine.

The tranny also has an adjusting bolt that fits a bracket on the mounting plate to tension. The adjustment procedure is well laid out in the FACTORY service manuals.
See the documentation section on this site.

There is usually always slop in the slots, allowing a small amount of rotation or twisting of the transmission for 'a little bit better' alignment. You can hold it whichever way you need it with light prying action, while tightening the mounting nuts and 5th bolt.
