1958 rear brake drum
Hello
I'm trying to source a correct rear drum for my '58 Duo.
Part number 41400-58A. It needs to be the narrow drum and black. I don't mind it not having the sprocket on it.
Ideally sourced from the UK, but if not USA fine.
Can anyone help?
Regards
Peter

Re: 1958 rear brake drum
They are all the wide ones, I'm looking for the early 1958 drum which is narrower. I know they say 1958 but there were early and late ones and mine is an early one, is narrower.

Re: 1958 rear brake drum
It's not the right one, mine uses a rivet on sprocket.
Apparently there are 3 different ones in the 1958/62 range. Mine has a shoe contact width if 1 3/8", all the reports I've found so far are the wider variety.
Regards
Peter

Re: 1958 rear brake drum
Peter,
There were only two drums for '58, the earlier one was stamped steel like a rigid frame drum and did not work well with hydraulic brakes. It was replaced early in the year with a cast iron type. Both were narrow shoe and the cast iron one was used through the '62 model year. In '63 the drum was widened along with the shoes for more braking power. The wide drum was used in two different versions ('63-'66 and '67-'72) until the advent of disc brakes.
The Paughco drum listed is a direct replacement and is riveted just as the original.
