Rivera eliminator Carb - 1 or 2

#1

Post by mik666 »

Hey All
so in going though my newly acquired 61 panhead, which has sat for years in storage, i thought it would be best to rebuild the carb as part of the going though it process. it has a rivera SU carb on it but i see there is a version 1 and 2. I've tried emailing rivera directly but haven't received any reply (been over 10 days) so wanted to ask if anyone here is familiar enough with them and can tell me how to distinguish between the 1 and 2 versions?
thx in advance!
Mike

Picture would go a long way in ascertaining which model you have.

Here is an article about the SU Eliminator, but it doesn't explain the differences.

That's a 2. Rebuilding is going to be tough. We haven't seen a rebuild kit in months. Both 1 and 2 are on back order. They say they can't get a couple of parts. Yet they will sell you a brand new carb they can't support. Then again if they can't supply up to date Vitron o-rings and seals to deal with this shit they call gas. Why bother run it. Don't get me wrong. It was one of the greatest carbs out there. I have a lot of the parts in stock but short of total. Bob L

Have you tried companies like http://burlen.co.uk/ and http://www.southerncarbs.co.uk (in England)?

There's not a whole lot of parts necessary to rebuild a SU. I may even have a kit in my attic but fact is, if I may suggest, pull the piston out and clean it and it's chamber, put it back and go riding. There are throttle shaft seals (common "O" rings) on these later model SUs but other then that not a whole lot of parts that go bad. Obviously, you'll want to clean the fuel bowl and it's needle and seat.....let me know how you make out. If your hell bent on rebuilding I can check my attic....I believe I saw a kit yesterday while looking for some other parts....walt....tulsa,ok

appreciate the offer Walt - i will try cleaning it as suggested as i'm getting the feeling that there's not a lot of wear on the bike after it was rebuilt sometime in the late 80's (famous last words right! ) -if your up in the attic again and see it let me know, but don't make a trip just to look for it
Best

I may be wrong, but I believe the main difference between the Elim1 and the Elim2 is the Elim 2 uses a "Gross Jet" rather than a needle and seat set-up, and the Elim 2 uses a push/pull throttle shaft wheel set-up vs the old single cable throttle arm....bosheff
