inner primary, oil deflector
Does anyone know when the shape of the tin inner primary oil deflector changed ? I bought half of an original inner to save the drain fitting and oil deflector for repair work, but when i cleaned things i found the shape of the deflector is different than on any of the primaries i have. It is also in a slightly different location. thank you

I know they changed, I just don't know what year they changed. Sorry.

Re: inner primary, oil deflector
In your photo, the top cover, labeled "B", has a deflector like the one on a cover I have that is for BTSV and maybe knuckle. The cover lacks the indent on the bottom which is a relief for the frame seatpost support strap.
The bottom cover in your photo, labeled "A" has a deflector that is the same as on an original I have for early panhead motors with tapered sprocket shaft.
That much I can tell you, sorry I can't tell you more. I don't see anything "modified" on your covers.

Re: inner primary, oil deflector
This came off a 60 FLH, However both inner and outer were Chrome, so I'm not sure it was original. I think the one on my 59 is a simple arched piece of sheet metal with a dribble hole inside the arch, but it doesn't have the 90 degree bend on top like the 2 in your pictures.

Re: inner primary, oil deflector
Thank you for all replies:
The primary marked " A" is pre 1955 Timken style. I am curious about the "B" marked, style deflectors' application. I have several oem inner primaries some Timken style and some early that have had the deflectors torn off and just want to put this deflector on the correct vintage primary.
