Re: Motor Oil
That's a good piece of information!! Any ideas on how HD 60 weight compares in it's use in old engines?

Re: Motor Oil
Lots of reading. I'm hoping somebody goes through it and tells me what oil I should be using in my bikes.

Re: Motor Oil
Yeah, it sure is a lot of info. If I had a life I wouldn't have time. I thought it was interesting in regards to oil pressure, explains why it doesn't need to be very high in our Pans. Also the difference between "liquid" oil and "oil film". The pros and cons regarding needle bearings and bushings etc. The various tables are really helpful in selecting the best oil for your car or diesel truck, the difference in the different brands are huge. I wish there were more specific information regarding genuine HD straight viscosity and multi viscosity oil. (and to be a know-it-all, may I point our that W stands for winter not weight.) I'm going to send him an email regarding his view on the best oil for Shovels, Pans and older engines as he encouraged questions and feedback. If I get an answer I'll share it.

Re: Motor Oil
"Old Harley's need heavy oil". Ya 'cause open drive chain, splatter oiler, constant loss. On the first edition of my '52, lower end built by local shop, I ran 20-50 'racing' oil and/or Shell Aircraft oil. Keeping the stock drive chain wetted took more oil as it was thrown off easily. This tended to oil fog the rear of the bike and would leave a fair oil puddle sitting on the side stand. With enclosed drive models the chain is well drenched and wears better so lube weight not so much an issue.

Back in the day. As the saying goes. We would run Amalie 70 weight. In card board cans. Here in Tejas during the summer time.
