Which Pan is worth more, original paint bike or fresh restoration?

Post by OLD WUN »

I ask because I am seeing original paint bike selling for much more than restored. Been looking at some mid fifty's Pan and I see a guy just spent a ton of $$$$ on a restoration and the barn find with original paint is pulling more by far.I like both but wondering any guess on the market future for this?

They are only original once, and therein lies the value.

I'd take original any day... (if I won the lottery that day)

Original all day long, and then some.

Great pic of original pan Budd. That brings to mind another question. Do you leave the original piece as is or clean it up a little? Like remove some of the grease and gas varnish from cases?

Original paint, running well, with out a fresh polish but... Looking like it had been wiped down once a year and ridden for the last 50-75 years, no serious oil leaks or caked up sludge. That "Oh, yeah, I got a Harley back in the barn, I'll pull it out and we can go for a ride" kind of look. And close examination shows original bolts, grease at the fittings, and somehow old tires that are not dry rotted!

I would guess that a oldie in that condition would be worth the most, then you get into low production year vs. ......Rarity!

Just my opinion

Bottom line, oem is oem. Original will always hold a higher value weather in pieces or a complete bike...AND go up in value. Obviously junk is junk at some point if something has lived it's life has declined to the point of no use, or function the value would decrease. Oem original then becomes a value to an individual on an individual based on the condition of the oem.

Just mumbling on....
