2 into 1 exhuast fit/clamp

#1

Post by Weedy »

hello all. starting to get close with my project but I again need some help. I have a 49 engine in an early swingarm frame and am attempting to install a 2 into 1 exhaust from vtwin. the squish pipe mounting tab was way off. as it sat from the box the ypipe was aiming away from bike and the muffler by extension was even further. the p clamp that came with it fit with the flat on inside of muffler. the combination of the squish pipe mount and pclamp made the exhaust point away from the bike. looked horrible. so after a lot of beating and bending, I got the squish pipe mount and ypipe to point straight back. my problem now is that the pclamp will not work. the exhaust bracket sits directly underneath the muffler. looks to me like it needs a clamp that is centered verse the offset of the pclamp. that clamp looks like the # in my parts book which is 65293-58. but that obviously wont work on my setup. having never had this setup before I am a little baffled. I cant seem to find a 3 1/4" centred clamp. only a 3" which wont work. I am considering putting the flat of the pclamp on the outside and using a spacer to bracket but that will be butt ugly. also not much of a fabricater so that's not much of an option. has anyone else ran into this? I looked at the knowledge base but didn't find much. sorry for the longwinded post. I would post a few pics but haven't had any luck lately with the new phone. thanks for any advice tim

How is your muffler bracket mounted? It will fit two different ways...

Rubone it is mounted on outside of frame.Should it be on inside? A little embarassed i dodnt think of that ! Lol . Sometimes i cant see the fprest thru the tree's lol. I'm not at home but wouldn't that be too close to the rear wheel? Adam I tried but not very good with that stuff. Will try when the wife has some time. Thanks for the replies!

ok all after finally figuring out a way to post these pics, here they are. bracket off frame doesn't look right to me. it is mounted on outside of frame with bend going down because iif going up it would bring muffler too close to bottom of shock. if bracket mounted on inside of frame , not only would you need a spacer on rear bolt but it would be far too close to tire. wrong bracket maybe? I have been told by a couple people that this bracket should work. but on the limited pics that I found on this site and others I don't see bracket and the muffler looks lower and straight. on mine it looks like muffler is pitched up and would see the bracket underneath. if a different angle is needed let me know. thanks tim

These guys will know better but doesn't the muffler have to be pushed in a little further? I don't remember off hand how the bracket mounts, from what I can remember I think it should be straight inline with the muffler, but if you are still having issues and no one else chimes in I can take a look when I get home and respond.

parts book shows a mount bracket that has 2 frame bolts as yours does then turns up and straight line to rear with 2 spaced mounting holes for clamps yours looks straight all the way down part should be 65318-58 support tube right side, now p clamp not needed in front, 65275-57 clamp muffler front 1 7/8 in. dia. muffler which you have , now parts book shows 4 different numbers for connector pipe 65505-41 41 to 57 rigid frame then dash 58,61, 65 all for standard exhaust you may have rigid frame connector pipe it does look long for swingarm frame and the big clamp is 2 numbers 62593-50 and -58 my duo glide has true duals muffler support tubes go up and bend in toward wheel and they are straight with look of bike and wheel space is right and yes back clamp has a 3/8 thick spacer all this out of parts book 58-65 models fl-flh hope this helps but rear connector pipe and support tube i would think is your hold up
