Adjusting Keihin carb on '57 FLH

#1

Post by 1957flhchop »

In the morning, I am getting my carb('70s Keihin butterfly) back from being ultrasonic cleaned. Could somebody give me a crash course in setting up/adjusting the carb when I get it back? I'm not concerned with changing any parts as the bike always ran great before Dad left it sit for 14 years. I just need to know about checking the float adjustment, adjusting rich/lean, etc. I've also heard something about accelerator pump tuning?
Thanks

Best advise I can give you is make sure secondary jet tube has the rubber bung installed, I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out why mine ran richer & richer every time I pulled it off & cleaned/blew it out. Finally found a reference to rubber bung on some old post on the net. If I remember rightly you can only adjust idle mixture & accelerator pump, change main jet for mixture. Cheers Johnno

Just found a diagram of it (item 24). You will find float level adj on line it will say you need some special tool but can be measured with small steel ruler or similar.
