Motor sprocket
I have a new 22 tooth motor sproket as parts book lists and a new 23 tooth transmission sprocket. Will my revs be OK for my usual 50 to 55 mph or should I go to a 23 tooth motor sprocket also? Or another combo? jerry

Re: Motor sprocket
Stock transmissions use a 22 tooth sprocket. That is what the speedometer is calibrated for. 23 tooth started in the '70s with front wheel drive speedos. Panheads use 23 or 24 tooth engine sprockets unless they are city police/commercial (22) or sidecar haulers (20). What are you building?

Re: Motor sprocket
thanks for the reply. The bike is a 58 on one side of the motor for sure . 60 frame , 66 tanks etc . Came to me with 22 engine and trans sprockets. I have new 22 front and 23 trans sprockets . Other than a small error in speed do you foresee any problem. jerry

Re: Motor sprocket
I personally like the 23 tooth engine sprocket as a 22 is good for the initial launch, but for cruising at speed, a 23 is better.
