Sounds like my WLA.

What are you hearing from the engine from the video that I am missing?

Do a search here about a temperature chart for flatheads, in the documentation section there is a colored chart from the Army’s Motorcycle Maintenance , Chapter 7 showing average normal temperature.

Inge,

The video with the temperature gauge showing the temperatures after a 20 mile test run, are way low in comparison with the chart.

If I may suggest:

Ride the bike for a lot longer, mabey 30-35 miles, and speed up to around 40 - 50 miles per hour.

Shut it down and have a note pad and pencil ready with pre-printed locations you want to check on it

Front cylinder head
Front cylinder in the fins area
Front exhaust

Same for rear cylinders and heads

Engine case. Left and the cam cover.

Transmission case,

When I did my WLA, I thought that everything was out of whack, but it turns out that I am a worrying sort.

Once I went to the Veterama in Mannheim and saw a lot of Flathead WLA’s in various configuration’s…

I decided that it was fine.

One last thing that I can think of is….. after a longer ride, put your hand on the oil tank…

Mine always felt like it was not warming up, till a fellow told me that It takes a while for the oil to get recirculated back to the tank.

Rode it one day till by back ached, and sure enough,

All of the temperatures I checked were within the range showed on the chart, and the oil tank got warm.

Would these same temp ranges apply to a U model?

Matt,

I would think that it would.

Just a bigger flathead engine

Yes, those temperatures apply to the big twin flat heads as well.

I don't hear or see anything unusual in the posted videos. If anything, I'd be curious why the cases are so running so cool.

Now, how do you suppose some dog faced soldier in a muddy motor pool in Patton's 3rd Army was going to check the temps on that dispatch rider's scooter?

They didn’t…

Just showing what information that was presented to the military motorcycle mechanics.

Back from Corona...
Thank you for the chard, I will do the test again when the weather is better.
Actually I break in the motor, probably 50-60 miles/h is too fast for the motor.
About the noise in the movie, when the camera move to the left side to the front cylinder, there is a "rattling or pinging" to hear.

Furthermore I will double check the ignition and magneto.

I have seen that bubble in most all see-through filters.
If you had an opaque filter you would not have this problem.
Quit worrying about it, it ain't nothing...
....RooDog....
PS: And get an air filter on that carburetor, that is something to worry about....

Fit the appropriate in-tank strainer, forget that inline thing and be done with it.

Yes, vent works fine. You can see the gascap on the picture, tank is open.

Ah, you mean, when I cannot see the air, it isnt there?
I can´t find a filter for my air intake. Where can I order the filter?

Thank you. That´s exactly the petcock that I have. I just thought, the filter is not fine enough :(
