Low Oil Pressure

#1

Post by mnstang »

I have a 53 Pan and have gone through the upper end, new pistons, rings and had the cylinders coated. When I start up and drive the oil pressure seems to run around 25 to 35 psi when driving. After warming up it seems to be running around 15 to 20 when driving. Running 50 weight oil. Should this be a big concern? I know that a 04 Harley that I had showed low oil when running in extreme heat but this is during 70 maybe 80 degrees.

Its normal for a Panhead to run low oil pressure you can have a reading of 0 at idle and still be fine. what your motor needs is oil flow! Harley never equipped a bike that I am aware of with an oil gage and in my opinion it is a waste of time to do so. As long a the factory equipped oil light goes out when you give it some gas you are good to go.
