Tappet block Screws?

#1

Post by Harleyfunds+50 »

Hi All,
Got a little oil seeping from my tappet blocks where they meet the case,
so gotta replace the gasket.
These have been changed some where along the way.
They aren't screw slotted screws,
More like a male torqe bolt or screw,
Where and what kind or socket is used to fit these screws?
thanks.

Sounds like someone changed the tappet blocks for late shovel type and used the late factory screws that belong with them. They are normal 12 point fasteners and I believe they are 5/16 head. Nothing special.

Thanks Rubone,
Me an neighbor been auto mechanics for more than 30 years,
we got 6 point,13 point, torqe wrenches,
we don't have any 12 point sockets or wrenchs.
Guess its a Harley thing,,,
Guess I'm making a trip to Harley Dealer tomorrow.
Thanks again...

No such thing as 13 point. And they are NOT H-D specific, they are common head types. Every set of sockets I own have 12 point versions, same with every box wrench, and I've been using them for 50 years. All 6 point fasteners also fit into 12 point sockets.
