Vented gas caps

#1

Post by Trogg »

Hi Guys
Sorry for a bit of a dumb question, but should both gas caps be vented?
I have original 3.5 gallon tanks with no cross vent at top. Just the balance pipe for the fuel.

Not according to the parts book. The non vented left cap started in 1965. 61103-65

If you have an original '59 tanks both caps should be vented.

Not so, all fuel tanks on pre '65 models were vented both sides and have short reach caps. When H-D went to interconnected vent lines under the dash they started using a long reach unvented cap on the left. 45 oil tank caps which look like gas caps are unvented and should never be used on a gas tank.

Thanks guys
I wondered why the new cap I bought kept spinning around and not locking. Time to buy another vented cap!
