Post by jerryd »

Good evening , My buddy seat spring setup is a mix of whatever was around by the PO. Can someone please post a picture of the correct bolts ,nuts , spacer layout.
It is a 1960 frame. One of the bolts attached to spring has a spacer as part of it. Other side is a skinny bolt . and a bunch of washer as spacers. Am away so will try to get a picture when home. Thanks jerry

I have a complete new aftermarket unpackaged set-up for your year in my stash if you're interested. I don't have anymore OEM set-ups left, just bits and pieces.

Thanks for the replys
Panhead- I have the pogo sorted , It is the buddy spring setup I am sorting out
DSCF0204.JPG
In the first picture.-Do the angle pieces sit up or lay flat?
In the second picture- the bolt from bracket to spring has a built in spacer/shoulder but from another parts picture I think it might be off a ridged Pan.
The other side just has a bolt, homemade spacer and washers (lost the pic)

cdndewey, thanks for the reply too Do you have a pic of what holds these parts together?

The angle pieces lay flat.

If memory serves me the left side only has spacers with dual exhaust, however I might be wrong. I remember seeing a HD shop dope about it on here some time ago.

Thanks Lowbikemike, I would think the bolts must have a small/thin head to keep from rubbing the frame. The ones presently used touch the from keeping the bracket from laying flat. I remember reading somewhere too about the shims . Mine is a dual exhaust so I will keep it in mind. Any part numbers for the hardware so I can search old dude or someone?

Are the brackets facing the correct way? This is the way it came but I found a picture of parts laid out with them facing the other way

Jerry...the pieces lay flat. There is a 3/8" rod threaded with 24 t.p.i. about an inch and a half on each end that passes through the frame. I might have a spare one kicking around, I'll have a peak this weekend.

Go to the knowledge or the document section and you should be able to find a parts book with all the parts.

Perfect thank you. I have been looking for this picture. I have seen it before in my travels through the KB but I have not been able to find it in the last few days . It is saved in the computer and printed and in my 41-84 Parts book. Would there be any chance of the page with part numbers? The one part I was not sure of is #42. If any one has the dimensions I'll probably make one on the lathe until I actually come across the real thing. Not much HD stuff where I live . Hope to make Wauseon this year again with a long list. I really appreciate this site and the help it provides. This pan I got is a real piece of work, but I have built out of boxes of parts before so I am having fun.

Be aware that #41 is NOT a washer, it is a threaded spacer that is adjusted to the width of the frame so that the bracket bears against it when the hardware is tightened, it is the diameter of the hole through the frame. Part # 42 is a spacer. Remember that the crash bars also mount in that same place.

Thanks Rubone. Yes I realize the difference in the spacers. I have two of #41 with the threads. I need two of #42. I will try to determine the size and make them on the lathe until I come across the real ones. Bolts and washers I have. The PO was using a spacer from the oil tank mount on one side and a shoulder stud , 5/16 one end , 3/8 on the other. I think it may be from an earlier bike.Solving one puzzle at a time . Thanks again.

Try Old Dude for all fasteners and spacers, etc.
