Hey guys,
I'm just having a look at some of the repairs that will need to be done to my cases, and I'm wondering if I could get some opinions about this. The lip where the primary would bolt to the left case seems to have been milled down.
Would this have been done to run an electric start primary? And is this something that should be addressed if I want to run an early pan primary, or could it be run as is?
Thanks for any responses.

Oki----It can be run as is.Just use the gasket between the inner primary & you should be fine.Whatever was taken off is minimal & you should have no problem with interference from compensater.-----Respectfully----Richie

Re: Left case primary mod question
Without the lip the only thing that centers and aligns the inner primary is the bolts holding it on. It won't be an issue if they are kept tight. I would also use a reinforcing ring on it for support.

I appreciate the responses, guys.
Rubone - What exactly do you mean by a reinforcing ring? Just something to take the place of that lip?

Re: Left case primary mod question
The reinforcing ring is part of the fastener package. Check the parts books, there are two styles, early and late. All primary covers should be mounted using the reinforcing ring, or the later style 'butterflies'. But I'll bet the majority are put together without them.

Oh, I didn't want to steer you wrong when I said most bikes don't have the reinforcing ring.
With the engine case you showed, you have to listen to Robbie- for sure you want the reinforcing ring.
