Re: identify police duo-glides
POLICE SPEEDO, FAN COOLED GEN., HOLE IN THE FRONT FENDER, SIDE MOUNT OIL TANK, HEAVY DUTY VOLTAGE REG., BLACK FRONT END, LITTLE OR NO CHROME, DUALS, FLH MOTOR, EXTRA HOLES IN THE FENDERS, EXTRA BRACKETS FOR BILLY CLUB, FIRE EXT., MIC., EXTRA SWITCHES, RED AND BLUE PASSING LAMPS, AND I'M SURE MANY MORE THINGS. DEPENDS ON THE STATE OR DEPARTMENT THAT ORDERED THE BIKE. SOME MOTORS MIGHT EVEN HAVE EXTRA NUMBERS SO THE SEVICE DEPARTMENT COULD KEEP TRACK OF MILES AND REPAIRS.

Re: identify police duo-glides
Tony, I'm guessing the hole in the front fender is for the siren, as the hydra-glides had a rear wheel driven siren? I've seen a side mount oil tank on Hydra-glides. Is it for more oil capacity? By the way, your timer advance/retard bracket is working flawlessly. Gary

Re: identify police duo-glides
Side mount oil tank is for larger battery, not more oil.
There are NO identifying markings on a Police bike so as stated all the identifiers are based on fitted accessories and initial package it was ordered with. Depending on the individual end user it could be a Plain-Jane bike with handshift, or a deluxe packaged FLH with foot shift. There were no set rules on Police bikes. It all depended on the department budget.
Siren placement was an option. So was about everything else including paint jobs.
Not all police bikes had heavy duty charging systems and radios. The possibilities go on and on. What are you trying to determine???

Re: identify police duo-glides
Rubone, a friend who doesn't do computers much bought a 62 Duo-glide basket, supposed to be a complete police model. I haven't seen it yet, but he says it has a front fender siren and police special speedo. From what I read here it takes more than a siren and speedo to be probable police model, since there's no known documentation. Now I can speak with a little intelligence about what they have on them. Thanks for the info. Gary
