Hello,
today I took off the gear case cover on my Duoglide 58 and found the marks on the gear were not aligned like it is described in the service manual.
As you can see on this picture :
So, I took off the cam gear (that is not original I think) but can't find any stamped info on it about brand or model.
Do you know something about that type of cam gear ?
Could there be any reason why the marks are not correctly aligned on the gears, or is it only a wrong assembly ?
thank you for your answers,
sincerely

Re: camgear and timing question
The marks do not align every revolution. That is perfectly normal.Could there be any reason why the marks are not correctly aligned on the gears, or is it only a wrong assembly ?

Re: camgear and timing question
Also if back lobe is not stamped with a H///& no other aftermarket marks-Then most likely a stock FL cam.In the K-base----It tells you how you can measure the lift & know exactly what it is.Just read & follow instructions/& remember to add for rockerarm ratio for the actual lift!---Richie

Re: camgear and timing question
The cam gear is twice the diameter with twice the tooth count (42 vs. 21) of the pinion gear. Therefore, the marks will align every other rotation.
In the top photo, however, they will not. The cam gear mark is not exactly opposite (180° away from) the pinion mark, and the marks will not line up at all.

Re: camgear and timing question
hello,
I put back the gears in the exact position they were on the picture and after rotating the flywheel they perfectly aligned.
So the assembly is good, you were right Rubone, thanks.
Concerning the cam gear there is absolutely no mark, no H and nothing else. Does it mean that it can only be a stock FL cam gear ?
I looked in the K-base but did not find what you are talking about Ritchie. Can you be more precise on were I can find the info ?
I tried to measure the clearance between the cam gear needle bearing and the cam gear, but I could not get a clear measure.
What is the best way to do it ?
sincerely
